After watching a recent
movie called "Angela's Ashes" I
was once again reminded of how ridiculous
I think it is when poor people keep digging
themselves into a bigger hole by having more
and more kids! What sense does it make to
not be able to feed 5 children and then bring
another one into this world? My rant really
isn't about the movie, but if you want to
see a movie about a poor Irish family that
has a ton of kids, and barely makes it, that's
the movie to watch.
What I really can't
stand is when you're walking around a store
like Wal-Mart (not that you would find only
decent people there) and you're blocked by
this huge SLOW family who can't seem to control
even one of their kids, and takes their time
walking around. They don't pay attention to
their misbehaving kids, let alone regular
citizens trying to get BY.
I remember one day
when Chris & I were in the hair products
isle, and we saw this chubby little girl around
3-4 years old sitting on the nasty floor tile,
and somewhat nearby stood this lady that really
wasn't paying attention, so I questioned if
it was her mom. The girl suddenly looks up
and goes, "Mommy! Look!" and showed
the lady nearby that she had fun opening up
some kid's conditioner and rubbing it on her
hands. Her mom seemed not to really care,
and helped her up and they left the isle.
Ok...that may not have seemed like anything
wrong to you, but it sure was annoying.
A MOM letting her little daughter sit on the
dirty floor and open up products that other
people were going to buy, and not even teaching
her that she shouldn't do that.. What's wrong
with that picture?!?! She should have been
checking up on her kid more often, and teaching
her public manners. Sheesh!
I don't want to dog
on any particular races, so I'm not going
to. I've seen similar situations in several
cultures, so it doesn't seem to be more common
in one than the other. I know I'm not a parent
yet, but I've heard it's expensive to raise
a child. This may sound superficial, but even
if I only made like 15k a year and had 2 kids,
I wouldn't dare let my kids go to the store
and look like they weren't being taken care
of. I know kids get dirty and stuff, but I'd
at least clean them off or have them get cleaned
up before I go anywhere. One day I was at
Eckerd and in walked this normal looking blonde
lady and behind her trailed 2 little blonde
girls that I felt so sorry for. They had really
dirty, scraggly looking clothes, and their
hair was all tangled, and it looked like they
had crusty looking runny noses. Plus, they
looked like they had dirt on their faces.
Who would let their kids walk around other
people looking so neglected? I almost wanted
to take those girls home with me and fix them
up so that they would know what it's like
to have someone take care of them. Of course,
I might have just caught them at a bad time.
Everyone has their story. Maybe they just
suddenly got caught in a bad financial situation,
and couldn't buy decent clothes for their
kids. *shrug* In general though, I do not
think children should look like that.
I would want my own children to always look
clean, healthy, (if possible), and anything
but a health hazard. So that's my biggest
pet peeve about kids...don't have any if you
can't afford them! I can't believe we have
to pay for the irresponsibility of some adults
out there who can't control their life and
their offspring.
I'm not done with this
rant yet...so there's more to come...
