Bye bye OSC :(
So last night was my last night at a department I truly enjoyed working for. They're called the OSC (for Operations Support Center). It was basically like any command center or NOC you've ever seen. That was the group I had wanted to get into for a few years but never had the opportunity until early last year when they finally had an opening. My recruitment company found a business email tech support position for me that was closely related to the OSC and stuck me in there for a while until I could get into the OSC. I really enjoyed the people I worked with.. it seemed like everyone had character... and I never felt uncomfortable going to work there. It wasn't a typical office job with the same routine tasks everyday.. that's probably why I liked it. Anyway... I'm now moving to another group that works closely with the OSC (thankfully) but doing a bit more challenging and draining work as a Unix admin for a group that always seems to be oncall. Even though the job pays more and has more responsibilities... I'll end up working in a cube farm, rather than the cushy, dark room that is the OSC, where you're surrounded by TV's and monitors galore, and the appearance of flourescent lights is a rare occasion. I never thought I'd leave the OSC, but things happen when they happen and it's usually for the best.
