30 Lbs in 30 Days
Never did I imagine that anyone would compete with a complete stranger to intentionally gain 30 lbs in 30 days. Sure enough, here had to be someone who did this. The Fat Project is an amazingly courageous display of a couple willing to disfigure their formerly thin bodies in order to win $3000 from The Spark.
The shocking thing is that one of the competitors was a girl.. who was a former homecoming queen of all things!
They have several pages of all their experiences... daily I think. It's amazing how much weight someone can gain in one month. You don't even really have to read everything that happened each day... just skim reading and looking at the pictures alone showed their progress.
Anyway, if you haven't checked it out already, I'd recommend it. I'm not going to give away what happened.
*thinking to myself... if only I got $3000 for every 30 lbs I've gained in the past few years*

For those of you looking for a cause... why not try something unique? Yes, I'm talking about Traffic Cone Preservation. Believe it or not there are people out there that are into traffic cones in a big way. For a small $5.00 fee you can even adopt a "Dwarf ConeCone"... aww, they're so cute. :P
While you're at it, you might as well get yourself a low-maintenance cone pet, too! Who would have thought...

For the past 3 days... I have encountered many references to the whole "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US" phrase and it was RickySilk of Kungfoo.com who first mentioned it to me. He ran into my site searching for Pimpwar tips and ended up chatting with me for a bit and that's when I first heard the phrase.
Coincidentally, the same day, I visited MemePool and saw a few links to AYBABU enthusiast sites. I realized by then that it was probably some joke phrase or private joke gone public.
Yesterday, I dropped by Julie's site and read through some of her message board posts. Then I saw it again! Julie herself exclaimed the infamous phrase. A few of the message board members didn't know what it was all about, and one of the users (uziq) presented a very helpful link to an article that explains the madness.
Click here to view the scanned article in JPEG format.
Oh, and then today, I went into my manager's office to sign some papers, and I looked at his dry erase board, and AGAIN, saw the geeky phrase:
ALL YOUR BASE BELONG TO US!
Stop it! Stop the madness! I dunno... maybe I'm just not geeky enough to find it funny that Japanese to English translations could be so corky.

It's Saturday morning and John's just about to set off on a round of golf when he realizes that he forgot to tell his wife that the guy who fixes the washing machine is coming around at noon. So John heads back to the clubhouse and phones home.
"Hello?" says a little girl's voice.
"Hi, honey, it's Daddy," says John. "Is Mommy near the phone?"
"No, Daddy. She's upstairs in the bedroom with Uncle Fred."
After a brief pause, John says, "But you haven't got an Uncle Fred, honey!"
"Yes, I do, and he's upstairs in the bedroom with Mommy!"
"Okay, then. Here's what I want you do. Put down the phone, run upstairs and knock on the bedroom door and shout in to Mommy and Uncle Fred that my car's just pulled up outside the house."
"Okay, Daddy!" A few minutes later, the little girl comes back to the phone. "Well, I did what you said, Daddy."
"And what happened?"
"Well, Mommy jumped out of bed and ran around screaming, then she tripped over the rug and went out the front window and now she's all dead."
"Oh, my God! What about Uncle Fred?"
"He jumped out of bed too, and he was all scared, and he jumped out the back window into the swimming pool. But he must have forgot that last week you took out all the water to clean it, so he hit the bottom of the swimming pool and now he's dead too."
There is a long pause.
"Swimming pool? Is this 555-3097?"

Chris (my fiance) and I signed up for the not-so-serious matching service at SparkMatch. It asks you a ton of questions, and has you fill out a bio (that you can put serious or crazy stuff in) and then matches you with other people who have filled out the survey going by what type of person you are and whether or not you answered all of those questions the same way. Flipping through the profiles, I was surprised how serious some people took it. Many people actually put their real picture up there.. other people put joke pictures and illustrations. Since Chris and I are obviously taken, we only took it with a grain of salt.
After looking through many singles ads on this site and many other singles sites... I begin to really appreciate not being single anymore and being with my Christopher. I think I'd be way too picky if I were to look for a man right now, and probably die single.

Here at our NOC (network operations center), we do get a lot of people who dial the wrong number and get us. We've had people calling and asking for "Uncle Billy", "Grandma", "Bobby", and all sorts of other people and businesses.
Today I answered a pretty strange one. It was a collect call from our county prison. It didn't say who was making the call, it just said it was a call from there.. so I accepted it. The guy/prisoner asked if this was an attorney's office, and of course I said no. Poor guy, I hope they didn't count that as his only call.

I am normally not a person very paranoid about computer viruses, but I do know there are a lot of computer users out there that seem to always worry about this and that virus and whether or not their computer is safe enough. That's why I'm so glad someone decided to create a site about computer virus hoaxes and urban legends that helps dispell myths and other beliefs that any computer user may have.
It even has a section with articles about a condition they call "False Authority Syndrome" which is described as when a person who speaks with authority about computer viruses and has little or no genuine expertise. Most of the time they are people who just happen to work in the computer field or know how to use a computer. I think it's hilarious when people act like that...I know there are a lot of people like that out there who spread waves of paranoia to less experienced computer users. They're probably also the same type of people who would believe that when you can't connect to your ISP it's always the ISP's fault. It's couldn't ever possibly be their piece of crap $5 Winmodem -- NOooo...never.
Be sure to check their Hoaxes section as well... it contains an FAQ and articles about overblown virus alerts and such.

How to pronounce certain words to sound more "Ghetto" and NO I am NOT being racist... just making an observation on the way some people talk
Make sure to say...
1. "Ax" instead of "Ask" 2. "Ruint" instead of "Ruined" 3. "Neh-mind" instead of "Nevermind" 4. "Spisketty" instead of "Spaghetti" 5. "Hurra" instead of "Hair" 7. "Pessific" instead of "Specific" 8. "Kilt" instead of "Killed" 9. "Aight" instead of "Alright" 10. "My Homegirl" instead of "My Friend"
There are a zillion more, but if it really is your goal to sound a lil more ghetto.. I suggest looking for an Ebonics dictionary.

I've always wanted to see an aerial view of where I live, and never had luck until today. A site called DFWMaps.com happened to have a shot from 1999 of the property. You can't really see the house very well... just splotches surrounded by trees. But you could see our dock clearly.. the boats look like one white block though. I blurred out the street just for privacy reasons... I'm not going to live there long anyway since we're going to move to Dallas.

I am pretty guilty of making common mistakes in the English language when I type. Even though English is the only language I can speak, understand and write, I still make errors that are just as common to people who have taken countless English classes in college. Common Errors in English lists a ton of common misspellings, usages of grammar, and misused words that many people are guilty of. See how well your English stacks up.
I've always spell weird two ways.. weird (correct) and wierd (incorrect). I have no idea why I don't just spell it right... maybe it's because I have doubt, and feel that the i before e rule should apply to all words where c does not come before the i & e.
My BIGGEST pet peeve when it comes to improperly pronounced words is when people say DROWNDED instead of DROWNED OR DROWNDING instead of DROWNING. *cringe*

Memories I believe that memories are a very important part of being a human being. They make us who we are. We depend on our memories, and identify with other people with our memories. It's sad to think that there are probably so many moments in your life that you cannot clearly remember, so they become lost memories...stuck somewhere deep in our subconscious, with little hope of ever coming out. For fear of forgetting some of those tiny memories I always tried to hang onto, I decided to start using Random Access Memory to store and share those memories. I think it's a great idea... especially if you were like me and never kept a journal. I'll be keeping my memories under the username "rozzie" if you're ever curious enough to see what my memories were.

- People are a lot more talkative (prolly since they can't surf) and talk a lot faster (it's in Dallas).
- Each of us will have our own NT machine and Solaris machine to work on... both with 21 inch monitors.
- BIG cubicles
- Nice carpet and cubicles
- People actually enjoy work
- No webcams allowed.
- Company news and documentation is frequently updated
- Inter-departmental communication seems good
- Took almost 2 hours to get to work.

HOW DO THESE PEOPLE SURVIVE!!!
Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. "We don't have half dozen nuggets", said the teenager at the counter. "You don't?" I replied. "We only have six, nine, or twelve," was the reply. "So I can't order a half-dozen nuggets, but I can order six?" "That's right." So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets.
------------------------------- A lady at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and pulling it out very quickly. When inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM "thingy".
-------------------------------
I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. Do you need some help?" I asked. She replied, "I knew I should have replaced the battery to this remote door unlocker. Now I can't get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenient store) would have a battery to fit this?" "Hmmm, I dunno. Do you have an alarm too?" I asked. "No, just this remote thingy," she answered, handing it and the car keys to me. As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, "Why don't you drive over there and check about the batteries it's a long walk.
------------------------------- Several years ago, we had an intern who was none too swift. One day she was typing and turned to a secretary and said, "I'm almost out of typing paper. What do I do?" "Just use copier machine paper," the secretary told her. With that, the intern took her last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five "blank" copies.

I was in a car dealership a while ago, when a large motor home was towed into the garage. The front of the vehicle was in dire need of repair and the whole thing generally looked like an extra in "Twister". I asked the manager what had happened. He told me that the driver had set the "cruise control" and then went in the back to make a sandwich.

IDIOTS & COMPUTERS
My neighbor works in the operations department in the central office of a large bank. Employees in the field call him when they have problems with their computers. One night he got a call from a woman in one of the branch banks who had this question: "I've got smoke coming from the back of my terminal. Do you guys have a fire downtown?"
-------------------------------
IDIOTS ARE EASY TO PLEASE I was sitting in my science class, when the teacher commented that the next day would be the shortest day of the year. My lab partner became visibly excited, cheering and clapping. I explained to her that the amount of daylight changes, not the actual amount of time. Needless to say, she was very disappointed.
------------------------------- Police in Radnor, Pennsylvania, interrogated a suspect by placing a metal colander on his head and connecting it with wires to a photocopy machine. The message "He's lying" was placed in the copier, and police pressed the copy button each time they thought the suspect wasn't telling the truth. Believing the "lie detector" was working, the suspect confessed.

Nightly Comfort
For the next several weeks, I will probably have much less time to sleep, so I would at least expect to sleep comfortably. Right now, my bed is less than soft so sleeping can be quite a discomfort. I still haven't gotten used to how flat it is. I know I could have bought a pillowtop mattress, but since I didn't want to shell out the money at the time, we just bought a normal bed.
This weekend (my last weekend for a long time), I'm hoping to get my hands on either a featherbed, or a fiberbed. Though featherbeds sound like they'd be more comfortable, whenever I touched one, it felt too thin, or get flattened too easily. The fiberbed was a lot thicker, and seemed like it would be more comfy for my back. More than likely I'm going to pick a fiberbed.
We used to sleep on a waterbed, and after a couple years, it began to fall apart on us, and the board underneath even broke on one side, causing me to sleep really awkward every night. It started leaking and became way too much of a discomfort, we got desperate and bought a normal bed, and vowed never to get a waterbed like that again. Since then, I think we've slept a tad better.

Wow, I think this is an awesome idea! Have you seen it? It's called The 1000 Journal Project, and it's basically a project where 1000 blank journals have been distributed around the world, and people who get a hold of them will be able to leave an entry and pass it along to another person. I hope I get to run into the journal. Things like this make the world seem a whole lot smaller, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I hope this project lasts a while.

I think the best way to watch Temptation Island is to try not to relate it to your own relationship. I haven't been able to put myself in any of the participant's places, as I'm sure there are some people out there that have, so it's actually pretty fun to watch. I didn't want to watch the show at first because I figured it would be pretty lame, and that I'd probably start getting emotionally affected by it, but to the contrary, it's a pretty exciting show to watch, and I like watching people have to go through that.
I don't think all couples need to go through a test like that just to find out if they're right for each other, but I do think many people these days shouldn't just marry for convenience or some reason other than being completely in love with each other. I'm tired of hearing of people who get married for a few years, and get divorced, and re-marry. Not only do you have to worry about more paperwork, you're just outright ignoring what the bible says about marriage! Okay... that may just be me speaking from a Catholic standpoint, but I really think people need to be more careful before they jump into such a huge commitment.

I swear... every time I keep running into this screen, the more I become tempted to use GreyMatter, as seen on more and more weblog sites each day. It teach me to become less co-dependent. Plus, I'd probably free up some resources for poor ol' Blogger.

I Love Coincidences

Earlier today, we went to H & R Block to pick up my tax refund check (which they had ready in less than 24 hours!), and the lady who was getting me my check suddenly asked, "Is that last name Hawaiian? Your last name looks Hawaiian" My last name is Khuu, and as far as I know it's not Hawaiian. I told her that it wasn't... but I wasn't sure where it came from. My dad says it's Chinese. Normally, people don't even bring up the word Hawaii around me, but I have had a few people think I was Hawaiian in the past.
So we drove for another 20 minutes to get to the bank, and we went to cash my check so we could have money to get our tires fixed. The bank teller lady told me out of nowhere that she has a Hawaiian friend that looks just like me. I looked at her, amazed, and told her what a HUGE coincidence it was that she mentioned that because the last place we were at had asked me about my last name being Hawaiian. I was so shocked.. and Chris was, too.
Don't you just love it when weird things happen like that? I mean, what are the odds that would happen? It's not like it's an everyday thing that people mention the word Hawaii around me; in fact today, I looked pretty trashy, not Hawaiian. Chris and I notice so many little coincidences like that. It's cool how the world works.

Supra Sighting!!!!(not!)
Today, we were getting gas at a local gas station, and across from us, we saw this yellow Supra and totally fell in love! No... just kidding... it ended up being what I call a Riceboy car. It was a yellow piece of crap econo-car with a big fat Supra wing (or whale tail) on it. If you don't know what I'm talking about.. here's a picture.

See that big, tall, unflattering spoiler on this car? That's what I'm talking about--it does not belong on REGULAR CARS. I think it only looks good on Supras, not economy cars! It just makes you look like a bigger wannabe!
Now... for the biggest shock, we were expecting some hoopty-ish young guy to get in the car, but instead, we saw this VERY normal looking older white woman get into the car! She was even wearing a dress-suit! We were like.. WTF? I couldn't believe it, and I wish I had a camera to take a picture as she drove off. This is what we figured was probably the story:
- It was her son's car, and since he couldn't afford to pay for the car or further modifications, his mom had to take over the car OR - She has some young boyfriend who's into car modification, and told her that she'll get 50 more horsepower out of her car if she adds a big spoiler to it. OR - For some strange reason, this very normal looking woman is into car mods, and decided to make people think her car was a Supra.

Can't wait to spend some tax refund money on some new work clothes. Methinks I'll be heading to Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, and the usual department stores available to me at the mall. Ann Taylor has some nicely made clothing. They have a lot of stuff you would want to wear to work. Plenty of wool, silk, and leathery stuff. Of course, not all of it is affordable, but it doesn't stop me from looking for good deals.

Banana Republic used to be a store I avoided, because I didn't want to look like a typical Asian girl who exclusively shops there (GOSH, I'm SHALLOW!). A few weeks ago, Chris and I started going there, and found many items we liked. Despite their higher than Gap prices, I think the quality of most of their clothing is excellent, and seems to fit very well. The seams are very fine, but firm, and the material is usually good quality cotton. Plus, they have a pair of really cute denim shoes I have my eyes on. $98 bux though.. A long time ago, I wouldn't have minded buying them since it wasn't my money I was using, but nowadays, I'm a bit more frugal.

I spent a good half an hour at Hero Machine building my dream fantasy character. I even made my Everquest character on there, too, but it didn't look much like her. Hero Machine has so many different combinations, you could spend many hours there. Check it out! Requires Flash. - got this link from the lovely usr/bin/girl -

I've been thinking about getting my hair cut this weekend. I don't want it ultra short, but I do want to chop off a few inches... I want it long enough that people can tell I'm a girl. :) I'm just tired of my tangly hair.. it's so painful. Wish I could just stop dying my hair.

I don't care what you say... but I think this house is absolutely delicious! Can you imagine the backside of your house looking like this? I'd feel like I died and gone to Heaven several times over! This home won an "Intelligent Home of the Year" award and if you check out the home wiring center, it looks like it's hooked up pretty well and ready for the 21st Century. It's in Plano, TX... figures.

Look at a preview of the $1.5 million dollar house here, and do check out the interior, exterior, and virtual tour of the house. I think it is such a perfect place to live and I'm glad it's not made of traditional brick.. which is all too common out here. I know I'll probably never be able to afford a place like this... but I will be surely inspired decorate my house like it.

One of my favorite pictures of Chris (my fiance for those that do not know). This was a picture of him when he was in the fire academy. I still think that firefighting is where he belongs, but for now I don't mind having dragged him into the computer field. It'll help him be versatile.

Elementary School Memories Re-Visited

I love finding people I used to know from school by simply looking for them on the web. I haven't had much luck with people I knew from elementary school, but I finally scored this morning! I found an old classmate from 4th grade named Nathanial.
He was always a smart kid, and from my perspective back then, we were always indirectly competing with each other in our art abilities as well as academic. Figuring he'd make some use of his brain, I decided to see if he had any kind of presence online... and sure enough I found him -- without having to look up public records. He is now a software engineer, and lives up in Maine... he did really good! I'm happy to see a gifted person take advantage of their abilities.
I've always tried to remain receptive about the people I went to school with. I remember so many people, how they spelled their names, how they behaved, and what they looked like. Anyway, hope to find more old school buddies soon -- it's always so exciting to me to see what they're doing now, even if they don't remember me!

EQ Price Check?
I can't believe how ignorant I have been to some of the Everquest sites out there, especially ones that would just make sense. Last evening, my co-worker pal Rush pointed out EQPrices.com to me, and I felt so dumbfounded! Duh! I would have figured that site existed.. why didn't I ever check? Well I did a bit of hunting around on it, and for the most part it's accurate and it seems to be updated regularly by players. Some of the prices sound a TAD over-inflated than what they are in the game, but that's probably expected. The database seemed a bit screwed up today since many of the items I was able to do price checks on yesterday were now without a price information page. Anyway from the information I saw yesterday, I found that my Blight, Hammer of the Scourge (that I got off of Naggy) averages about 18,600 pp among the different servers, prices ranging from 10k - 29k. I'm not selling that hammer.. heck no!

And then my Jaundiced Bone Bracer (which I traded a pair of GEBs for) was worth about 14k, but today since there is only one price entry, it's average is showing as 8k.

The page has a lot of potential, and it looks like the people who run it are constantly working out the bugs, and making sure people don't mess up the prices for everyone else.

A New Job, A New Place to Live
After nearly three years working at the same place, I began my hunt for a new job. It's not like I had a choice anyway. My company will be completely dissolved under its new owners in approximately 2 months... at least that's what we keep hearing. Today, I got up the nerve to go to an interview for a DSL configuration technician job in Richardson (NE. Dallas area). When we came up to the place at 3pm, the receptionist said that my interviewer had left thinking I was scheduled at 2pm. My heart stopped, thinking I lost my chance to interview. Then all of the sudden, the interviewer guy called the receptionist back and told him he was going to come back and interview me anyway. At that point, I was terribly nervous... I felt like the fact that he had to come back my totally ruin my chances since there was a minor miscommunication.
The interview went quite smooth, I thought. I wasn't nervous at all since he made me feel at ease. I'm glad it wasn't one of those interviews where they give you extremely posing questions that force you to end up giving them an answer only they want to hear. I was given room to speak my mind and ask my questions, and I even got to find out a little bit about my interviewer. He looked pretty young to me, like mid-20's, and he had been in the Air Force for a while, and then his last job was as a design engineer at GTE.
Anyway, I pretty much got the job, and it's going to be a normal job and an acceptable rate of pay to me. The only thing is, I still want to work where I am now, so that I get my severance pay and retention bonus. There is no way I could move out to Dallas with zero money. Turns out, my super-duper supervisor Loren seems pretty supportive of the idea of me working both places so we are going to find a way to make it work. I already made a conscious decision that I would be willing to work in both places until my current job is no longer. It's going to be a very very hard thing to do, but I am sure it'll all be worth it in the end. I've never worked two jobs before, so once I get started, I'll be able to say I have. It's going to be insane the number of miles we will be putting on the car....driving from one end of the metroplex to the other every day.. that's well over 150 miles a day!
I owe much of my motivation and support to my lovely fiance, Chris. Without his support, I would have probably either backed out on this decision or who knows?? Anyway, now I have a zillion things to think about and some work to do. Tata!
