Whoa.. I remember this!
A couple of days ago, I accidentally downloaded this song (2.8 megs) while I was trying to download more songs by Air. I listened to it, and I was suddenly struck by a strong sense of familiarity and all these memories of childhood came back to me. The song sounds a little bit sad, but the meaning of it isn't. It had been a song I had not listened to for YEARS, and I could not figure it out... but I know I loved that song back then, but where it came from had left me. It might have only been a song familiar to children of the 80's such as myself, but I'm not sure it would have been a popular type song.
Anyway, if you want to know where it came from, it was in a movie called THE SNOWMAN. The song is called Walking in the Air.

I remember this movie from way back, and I just remember the ending was one of those sad ones you see in kid's movies sometimes where there is a bond between a child and some kind of non-human character. I think there were also no words spoken in the movie and it was all narrated by very moving music. Gosh... that was so long ago.. and I remember watching it every time I could.
The version of the song that I have does not have words... it is purely piano.... but if you want the words, here they are.
Walking in the Air
We're walking in the air,
we're floating in the moonlit sky;
the people far below are sleeping as we fly.
I'm holding very tight,
I'm riding in the midnight blue,
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you.
On across the world the villages go by like dreams
The rivers and the hills,
the forests and the streams.
Children gaze open mouthed, taken by surprise;
Nobody down below believes their eyes.
We're surfing in the air,
we're swimmingin the frozen sky,
we're drifting over icy mountains floating by.
Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep,
rousing up a mighty monster from his sleep;
We're walking in the air,
we're dancing in the midnight sky
and everyone who sees us greets us as we fly.
