DFWBLOGS.COM Holiday Gathering
Last night, I went with Amy and Tom to the Dfwblogs.com Holiday Gathering. It was waaaay out in China from the parts of Fort Worth that us three were from, but it was a nice trip anyway. I'm used to meeting people in person that I've met online first, but this was the first time for me where there were like 25+ people, most of which who didn't know each other, decided to get together to celebrate the holidays. It was awkward, but thing we all fared pretty well. I'm sure the feeling was mutual, but it seemed that everyone expected to see a bunch of geeks that they didn't know in person there... heck, I thought I'd at least see ONE. But noooooo.. they had to let me down... Everyone turned out pretty damn normal. I have no idea where you'd find a herd of true geeks anymore...
I tried to relax and drink a beer graciously offered to me by Dave, but for some reason, I couldn't drink even half of it. For some reason, alcohol upset my stomach... perhaps it was because it wasn't my type of beer. I usually drink Bud Ice if I drink any beer at all... it goes down easier for me. Who knows... perhaps my chemistry has changed and my body just can't tolerate alcohol anymore. I don't even drink wine when Chris' parents offer it to me anymore. I guess alcohol has become my enemy, which couldn't be a bad thing. I think people need to learn to be able to have fun without drinking... there's too much alcohol involved in social events, and it's probably because people think they wouldn't be able to loosen up around others without getting a little buzzed. WOOPS, I think I'm kind of going off on a tangent here...I'll shut up
Anyway, thank you Tina for being so generous to host the dinner at your house, and the lasagna was fabuloso, Lyn & Pat! A big thank you to Karen and Erica Lucci who were so adorable and made me feel very welcome!
I didn't bring a junk gift since I didn't really think I was going to be able to go with my car in the shop and all, but thanks to Amy I got to go. There were some pretty normal gifts exchanged... a Chia Pet, a cellphone, a Lego racing thingy, a candle, a copy of the Constitution, a couple Stephen King video tapes, a Cher tape, the Devil's Dictionary, a thick Peace on Earth postcard, and a trailer trash giftpack. And the coolest gift had to be the Shaggy Doll! heh.. ah well.. I definitely want to participate next time someone has one of those funky gift exchanges.
