Happy New Year!!!!!!! (For you Eastern Time Zone folks) Y2K1 is Here!
My 2001 New Year's Resolution:
To break any other New Year's resolutions I make.... such as:
- Losing some flab - Being a nicer person - Learn something useful - Getting a better paying job - Getting some more college done - To stop dressing like a frump - Smile more
There.. that's more enough to get me going this year.

It's snowing today! Can you believe it? Snow in Texas? I thought we only got ice storms. :P Snow usually happens up in the Panhandle area... When I looked outside, I thought it was Christmas all over again. I wish it would snow on Christmas for once... now that would be super sweet.

Betcha didn't know I was such a G-H-E-T-T-O F-R-E-A-K ! ! !

Naaaaaah... I'm just kidding!! I'm never seen anywhere looking like this. In fact, I'm usually dressed down and pretty frumpy, and look like a dork rather than such a freaky girl. And just so you know, I am wearing a top.. it's a towel.
This all came about when I really had nothing to do at like 4 in the morning and decided to play around with some new makeup and makeup brush I just bought. Apparently, the eye makeup brush I bought is a bit too big for my little peahole eyes, so I'll have to take things easy with it from now on, hehe. After I did my makeup, I decided to try using a bunch of the fleshtoned lipgloss I have, and voila! I ended up looking like a ghetto Asian girl. Next, I added a really uncomfortable sequined choker, put my wet hair up with a clip, and put on my Hot Topic spiked bracelet, and that made me into an even bigger bad girl. It's funny what a few accessories also do to your attitude.
To someone who probably doesn't know me, this probably isn't a big deal since you could easily assume I always look like this, but to me, it felt totally unlike myself and I found it a bit entertaining. I took a few more webcam pics if you're bored enough and want to see.
I don't think I'd be able to sport around a look like this where I live. First, it looks like I'm going to a nightclub, and that would probably make people look at me funny. Second, it makes me look too trashy... so I'll just stick with looking bland. :P
More GhettoRoz #1 More GhettoRoz #2 More GhettoRoz #3 More GhettoRoz #4
I am such a dork.

Search Engine Wackiness
I've noticed for the past few weeks that I keep getting hits from lots of different places to my website via search engines. The perplexing thing is the keywords that are used to get to my site. The 3 biggest ones I'm seeing are "Cheapgrrl", "Nay", and "webcam"... Now I understand why and HOW those words are linked to my site (I wrote a little opinion about her on my opinionation page)... but of all names, why would people be searching such a strangely spelled name? I guess they must have heard of Cheapgrrl somewhere and thought they might find the link to her page from here. *shrug*
Well, if anyone has any ideas why people would be searching that word on the net........ let me know by using that SPEAK link above.

WARNING!!! THE FOLLOWING ENTRY CONTAINS AN AMIHOTORNOT LINK THAT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 21, SO IF YOU CLICK IT AND YOU GET IN TROUBLE OR GET OFFENDED, DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU!!!! DEFINITELY NOT SOMETHING YOU SHOULD VIEW AT WORK.
Being an Am I Hot or Not moderator, you get to see your share of idiots who try to sneak in an offensive or obscene picture that obviously shouldn't be rated on AIHON. My biggest pet peeve is the peek-a-boo animated gifs that some people have submitted. What that means is that you see their pic that looks normal and innocent at first, and then all of the sudden after it finishes loading, you'll see that it's an animated gif that shows them flashing or doing something really perverse. It's super sneaky and it has caught a few other moderators off-guard.
This one isn't extremely bad, but it does contain brief nudity... you have to wait a little while for the pic to load, and then you'll see what I mean. Feeling brave? Check it out here, before it vanishes. Isn't that pathetic? And you know what's even MORE pathetic? It's hosted on Geocities(!) which has a policy against nudity. Believe me, that's where we get the most inappropriate pictures, too.
I'm thinking of creating a gallery of rejected AIHON photos... but none with nudity of course.. I don't want any of that crap on my site.

*~GrrrrLy SiteS~*
Let's talk a little bit about what I like to call "cutesy girl webpages"... If you read my web-acquaintance Julie's very own opinion and experience about this, it's nearly identical to the experience and feelings I had coming across these sites for the first time.
I don't even recall how I ran into my first cutesy girl website. It happened sometime in 1999, though, after several years of some major surfing. I couldn't believe I never ran into them before because there were so MANY! After being so intrigued and inspired by a few of them, I almost launched a few silly looking cutesy girl pages of my own *bows her head in shame*, but would stop halfway and never put up the content so that I could start working on yet another layout.
Example 1 Example 2 Example 3
God, I'm so embarassed.
Very quickly, I realized that I was too old to be building GIRLY websites so I made this tamed and more mature looking layout. I got sick of the idea of using a bunch of possibly copyrighted anime character pictures and decorating my whole site around them, which was too easy to do...it's called color coordinating. And like Julie said, a lot of them really are the same format. You see some cute anime character and their whole layout is based on the colors of the "main" image, and everything is cutesy and a lot of the time uses frames and very small verdana, arial, or geneva font. I am very impressed with many of the pages especially when considering that some of these girls are only 13 years old and already able to make websites that are better looking than I could ever make. The only sad thing is how much of them seem to leech off of each other's ideas. You'll see a lot of common terms or menu options such as "You, Me, Site, WWW" and you will almost find a list of cliques they are involved in. Hey, I know I joined a few cliques myself.. but I don't think they're the cutesy girl ones.
A few more common things you will find on "cutesy girl webpages" if you've never seen them before...
- Image galleries of scans from stationary or screencaps from anime shows that they claim ownership to - More backgrounds than you can imagine, many containing copyrighted cartoon images - Lots of anime show info...which is good cuz it means content - Occasionally you will see a site with a pop-up window format (similar to my example #2) that could fit in the palm of your hand; and if you maximized it, sometimes the page would look really screwed up. - Adopted and adoptable pets (I've even made my own pets to give out for adoption, but haven't put them up) - **LotS** of CuTe ^_Girly_^ typing~** and kawaii (japanese for cute) emoticons like ^( o _ o )^
Recently, I visited one of the cutesy sites I used to frequent called Mimi's Graphic Shop(which has apparently been taken over by someone else as the original owner decided she had better things to do in her life), and I read this flame letter that was sent to the site's webmaster which was the reason why I suddenly felt to urge to write a little bit about how I feel towards these webpages. Oh well, I think they're an interesting part of the web community, but I just can't be part of it... that's ok.. I'm OLD.

I must have fallen off the bandwagon somewhere... Man, I feel so out of touch with other Asians sometimes... the only people I really hang around are non-Asians. There are mainly white folks out where I live, so that's all I have a choice to socialize with. That's no problem of course, but sometimes when I want to get in touch with my identity, I realize ...
BLAH! Ok... I'll cut the crap.. that's not what I really am trying to talk about right now. All I wanted to say is...
What's up with Asians & Sticker Pics????!?!?!? I've never heard of them until I started surfing that koreanpride.com site. I don't think I'd know how to be a "cool, up-to-date Asian" to save my life right now. And look!!! -----> This site even has a multi-page GALLERY of sticker pick! WTF? Where have I been? I feel like an underground hobbit or something.

I finally got some time to surf a little bit. I did some checking up on some polls I frequent. It's a site for and about Asians called Goldsea.com. I have left my share of comments on there that you will find if you dig REALLY hard, and after reading others people's comments, it's so easy to formulate your own. Lately, I've been checking up on this poll because some of the comments hit home with me. Being Asian, I can say we can have a lot of internal issues, and it's great that we have a platform like this to express ourselves on especially since most of us are so *quiet* about it like myself.

Camgirl Review to Check Out
Yesterday, Daign completed yet another camgirl review. His latest victim was a young college girl named Laurita. Like Daign said, let her writing speak for itself. Here's the review. After you check out the review, you should also see the discussion on Daign's board about it. All I can say is, you wouldn't want to be next up for a review. Daign can be cruel.. but he's honest... which is why I love him!

Augh.. Yesterday, I spent my morning lazily in bed (well mainly cuz I went to bed at like 5 in the morning), and I vaguely remembered that the TV was on. At some time, my eyes were a little open, and I noticed that Cybill Sheperd was on some show, and I had never seen her on daytime television before. I remember Chris asking me what that show was. I told him I had no idea, and fell back to sleep.
Later on that day, while I was at work, I was doing my daily surfing and went to EQVault and saw a little article that mentioned that Everquest was mentioned on TV that day on a show called Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus -- with Cybill Sheperd! I was stupified! I can't believe I missed it. The show yesterday was entitled, "Is he married to ME...or his computer?" and apparently it the husband was addicted to Everquest, and it caused problems in their relationship. I immediately went to the Mars/Venus website and checked for any video clips, and all they had was a promotional one to advertise the segment, but no mention of Everquest. I just wanted to hear what they said. So I registered on their message board and there was already a post in there about Everquest from another player who had heard of the EQ "sighting." Well, now I'm just hoping I can get a transcript or a video clip of it because I want to hear how bad they made it sound.
I used to be a hardcore EQ addict in my first year of playing. As soon as I got home from work, I was on there playing until 8 in the morning.. everyday. Of course it caused some problems for Chris, but once I got over the addiction, things got better. Now we both enjoy taking turns playing it, and I can't wait to get a second computer so we can both play at the same time. :)

Misconceptions About Driving on Icy Roads as seen by me ...
- If you drive a truck, SUV, or any other 4x4 vehicle, make sure you haul ass! You'll be ok.
- Don't worry about driving too fast when it's iced over, you've got ABS!
- 4 wheel drive means 4 wheel stop
- Make sure to tailgate and whiz by slower drivers rudely to show them that they're stupid for driving so carefully
- It is best to drive fast over bridges; that way you can get through the tough stuff quicker
- Cars with the most ice on them should drive the fastest

Do you know any other Asian groups that have a site like this? In a way, I think it's great that they have pride... they're the only Asians left in this world with a bit of decency in their culture! In a way, this site really makes me curious why there aren't many other Asian sites like this. There's even a discussion board for them to post their pictures and other supportive Korean brothers and sisters compliment them. It just stuns me -- I can't think of what to say. How come there isn't Vietnamesepride.com? I see a few others like chinesepride.com and laospride.com, but they're nowhere near complete. Does this say something about Koreans? (By the way I have nothing against Koreans!)

Well, back to work I am. Hope everyone had a very safe and wonderful Christmas. For the first time ever, I didn't see my mother for Christmas. There was a Winter Storm Warning effective for the whole metroplex, and Chris' parents warned us not to drive out there with the weather being so cold and the precipitation that would probably freeze. Well, freeze it did not when I woke up today. I feel pretty bad for not getting to see my mom yesterday. Oh well, we still have all their presents and we'll still get to enjoy that part this week sometime.
I'm going to hook the cam up in a little while after things settle down a little. I'm the only one here today because my supervisor has gotten ill. He hung in there quite a while without getting sick, but eventually it had to be his time. :)

Belated Deja.com News I don't know how many people use Deja.com, but I've been using it for a few years now because it's a wonderful resource for looking up answers to questions you can't as easily find with a search engine... at least in my experience. Well, for a long time, you could go to Deja and you'd instantly be in the Usenet search, and then use search whatever you want in their newsgroup archives. Then like a year or so ago, they changed their front-end so that it became some "Precision Buying Service" that I didn't care too much about, and to get to the discussion group searches I had to type out www.deja.com/usenet each time instead of just deja.com. Blah... I know it sounds lazy, but I just didn't like having to do that. It's like having to type www.yahoo.com/search just to get to the search part. Well lucky for me, recently Half.com took over that buying service and now Deja is back to its friendly old self again. I'm happy!

While I was sick, I hardly had the desire to surf or read about anything, so I tried turning to games as a way to get my mind off of the way my body felt. Since we had just bought ourselves a much roomier hard drive last week, I realized we could finally install our old old friend, The Sims and once again. We also installed the expansion pack as well. I hadn't played the game since we had to uninstall it to make room for Everquest and other games. Our last hard drive was a really sad 4.3gig, and so upgrading to a 20gig was a nice change. I know I'll fill that thing up fast, though.
My favorite part about playing The Sims is starting out the game. You create your little people, and then you start building their house. Most of the time, I don't know how I want the house to look... I've only decided whether or not I want them to have a lot of nice things, or if I want them to have to live very poor. It's fun either way. I use the money cheat a lot because Sim money doesn't go a long way, but of course it does take away the challenge of trying to make money by working for it. After building the house and furnishing it, I like to see the Sim(s) start to live its life, entertaining itself, eating, doing daily activities, and socialize. I laugh at the little commercials and movies playing on TV. The sound effects are so well designed. Even though you can't understand a word they're saying, you can tell what the sounds are supposed to be imitating, and that can be hilarious.

No, I didn't die.. but I sure felt like I was going to. Since the other night when I posted something about feeling nauseated, I've gone through one of the worst stomach flu's I've ever been through. I can't even count how many times I threw up, and don't know how much I've slept totally.. it's just been a not-so-exciting time for me. My fiance and I both got sick the same way and ended up in the emergency room. I was put on an IV because they said I was severely dehydrated. Let me tell you, and IV being put in you when you're conscious is no fun at all. And it's also hard to sleep knowing a needle is stuck in your arm. They put some kind of medication in there that stopped me from vomitting, and it made me so conked out I could barely talk. I talked to myself and heard all these slurred words... it was so insane... Well I'm going to go back to bed yet again. Night night.

Did You Notice? :: Entertainment Tonight I don't know how many of you still watch Entertainment Tonight, but since we don't have cable or satellite where I live, that's about the most entertaining thing to watch on TV at night. For a long time, it was a show I watched to feel happier about life, and just to see a bit of flash and glam. Then, for the past few months when they started doing those "What ever happened to.." shows, I noticed that they couldn't have an entire show without mentioning the dreaded word C-A-N-C-E-R at least once. You'd start seeing them show someone's old interview and then they'd slow it down a little and say something like "one month after this interview, soandso finally lost his/her battle with suchandsuch cancer."
It's become such a common illness, and fate of celebrities, that Chris and I have begun to call the show "Cancer Tonight." I realize they have no control over the stars getting cancer... but to always mention it? Boy, that just gets depressing.

I love bitching about commercials! There are so many of them that get on my nerves, and it's just fun to pick on them. Lately, this set of commercials have been really bothering me:
AT&T Worldnet Stand-Up Comedy Commercials: I don't know if any of you have seen them, but if you've EVER done ISP tech support, these commercials would really bother you. If you haven't seen them, let me try to describe them to you. I can't find a clip of them online, but hopefully one day, there will be one. Basically, a bunch of different consumer type folks are up on stage performing "stand-up comedy" and each of them has a smart ass thing to say about their ISP. Take for instance, one lady says, "My ISP has really good security---Even I can't even get in!" *ha-ha* Ok, this might be funny if you're not a tech taking calls from customers that believe all the BS in these commercials.
Basically, Worldnet has ended up validating every myth that customers have about ISP's! What a shame! ISP don't sit there and purposely disconnect customers just because they're bored. It is more likely you'll get a busy signal when you're trying to get on during hours that EVERYONE ELSE gets on! Username and password errors are usually USER ERROR, and only a small percentage is actually caused by radius problems and such. Ugh... I don't know what Worldnet was thinking, but they basically ruined it for all ISP's.. especially for their tech support. Do we really need more customers thinking so ignorantly about the internet service providers?

I'm a cheesy, sometimes sentimental person. There are some songs that really strike a chord with me. I love sad songs... I'm not a depressed person or anything, but there's just something about sad songs that bring me in touch with my emotions, and make me realize that I have feelings, and I'm not the cold, limp robot that I sometimes feel like. I like songs that make me want to cry. Here are some of the sappy, sad songs that I like to listen to from time to time...
"I can't make you love me" sung by George Michael or Reba McIntyre
"My heart will go on" sung by Celine Dion (SUPER cheese)
"Violin solo from Schindler's List" - sad violin solos really make me cry
I can't think of the others.. but I've got a whole bunch of them that I listen to. Do you have any sad songs you like to listen to?

More Talk Show Talk
Among my least favorite topics for talk shows are the ones where former geeks or victims of unkind words come back to confront their former bullies or crushes years later to show them what hot stuff they've become. I understand that in a way, it can be sweet revenge to show off how hot you are if you really were affected by being picked on when you were younger. These are some of my feelings about this subject:
-Ok, put yourself in the place of the former bully. Let's say this person that you used to make fun of turned out to be a total knockout--what are you going to do? Get on your knees and beg for forgiveness? Is being hot all that life's about? Aside from maybe an apology, what else are you supposed to say anyway?
-Secondly, did you EVER notice how a LOT of the women who want to confront the guys who picked on them end up having breast implants and wearing the skankiest items of clothing you can buy? I get the feeling girls like that ended up as strippers or involved in the sex industry somehow, due to their lack of confidence. If I was picked on when I was younger for being ugly and then turned out really hot, I would not risk being made fun of more by dressing like a hoe or looking like an exotic dancer on national TV. I'd probably wear a dress that made me look sexy without having to show a lot of skin, if anything. Do you think they'd get more respect out of a former bully by looking like a porn star?
-Lastly, they should be thanking those bullies for helping them become strong enough to make the best out of themselves. Would they have been that motivated had they never been pushed around some?
Ugh, I hate those shows...they could be done so much better.

Oh yeah, other good news... Yesterday, I was accepted as a moderator for Am I Hot or Not? and believe me, I was flattered. I know it doesn't make me special in any way, but I had been hoping to have the chance to be able to filter out the naughty pictures that pop up on there, so that they can keep it a nice fun atmosphere that's suitable for family audiences. What I basically have to have in mind is whether or not I would want my mother to be seeing the stuff that's on this site. That makes it 10x easier to determine whether or not a picture is rejected. I also have to watch out for anyone that looks too young, has too wide of a picture, or has identifying information on their picture. Though tedious at times, it's pretty fun, and is a nice thing to pass the time when I've got nothing better to do. Thanks AIHON Gods for letting me in!

Yippee! I had the most wonderful birthday party today--All thanks to my lovely, wonderful, hard-working mommy! I love her, and have her to thank for my giving me life, and dealing with all the troubles I've put her through during my teen years. We had lots of our really close family friends come, and my sister, Michelle came with her boyfriend, our friend Konrad, and her boyfriend's parents. Marilyn and her boyfriend, Allen came (doh cuz it's Marilyn's party, too), and Allen's mom, Kathy and l little sister Courtney, also came. I got actual presents, and a good amount of cold hard cash! I never thought I was going to ever see a present or birthday money ever again since I was getting so old. :P For my records, this is what I got:
Michelle & Matt -- $100 buckaroos Matt's Parents -- Pretty candle set and potpourri! (they met me for the first time today, and for some reason bought something that I really like) Mommy -- A sheer blouse and a pair of professional pants Marilyn & Allen -- A really awesome Powderpuff Girls zip-up case with lots of Powerpuff Girl items inside. Jessica and her parents -- $30 buckaroos Konrad -- Powderpuff Girl pencils and a 250 min phone card Michelle King (family friend) & Bruce -- $20 buckaroos Bac Thu (Michelle King's mom) -- Sweater shirt and lots of knee high socks (professional looking ones :P) Christopher Hoang & his parents -- $60 Buckaroos Kathie & Frank (My fiancee's parents) -- a brand new fluffy white bathrobe! I love robes!
I'm amazed! I felt like a teenager again. On my last birthday, I didn't have a party or presents since I went to Vegas to celebrate my 21st. It was pretty nice, though.. we few first class, and I only had one day to wait until I could gamble and drink legally!
I just want to thank everyone that came, once again, and also thank you so much for thinking of me, and still buying me presents like that. I really appreciate it!!
Love, Rosalyn

Happy Burfday to me! Today I turn the big 22... one of those birthdays that kinda just pass by until you hit your next BIG birthday. =) I'm going to have lunch/dinner with my family and friends tomorrow out in Dallas. I can't wait. Chris and his parents are going to come, too.
Well, I'm off to enjoy the day! Hope everyone has a good one! =)
Love, Rozzie

Mmmmmmm.. I don't know how much you're into potato soup, but I used to not care for it. It was probably because I tried the chunky one by Campbell's(which I normally like) or something. It tasted like chalky potatoes in chalky sauce. Yuck!
Well, to my surprise, a few months ago, my co-worker Kent introduced me to another kind of potato soup by a company called Bear Creek Foods. He had a huge container of it, and said he got it at Sam's. I checked out their website, and found out that they distribute it in smaller quantities at some grocery stores. I must say, it was ABSOLUTELY THE BEST potato soup I have ever eaten. It's got the perfect amount of herbs and spices, and if you cook it with less water, it tastes like creamy mashed potatoes... which I love. It doesn't have too much fat per serving, which is yet another plus. So, if you want something yummy to plop down with in front of the computer on a cold day, try Creamy Potato Soup Mix by Bear Creek Foods--And do try it with less water than recommended.

T A L K | S H O W | T A L K I used to be quite an avid fan of daytime talk shows a few years back. It was exciting to see the different variety of topics each day, and not knowing what to expect. I would watch typical shows like Oprah, Montel Williams, Leeza, Maury Povich, Ricki Lake, Jenny Jones, Sally Jesse Raphael, Rolonda, Geraldo, and many of the new hosts that tried to get a talk show started. For a while, they were my entertainment, and a good source of thought and inspiration. As time went by, many talk shows seemed to vanish into thin air, and then only strong ones were left standing...at least in my experience.
I started to notice the quality of these shows quickly deteriorating, and my interest went down with it. I know many people have witnessed the same, and the only say we have in it is to watch or not to watch.
Talk shows started to find their own niches, and stuck had shows about certain topics more often, which can be viewed as either a good or bad thing.
Good? -You could pick and choose which shows you wanted to watch based on what you were more interested in. Sometimes it's good to know what to expect. -It gave each talk show a clearer identity, rather then just blending them all into the same category.
Bad -It gets tiring to watch talk shows you used to like and see that they always talk about the same type of stuff all the time. -The viewing audiences for certain shows would become too small, as others would get bigger and bigger, creating an imbalance. -It gets hard to find talk shows with fresh topics, since they're only recycling old ones.
My Observations:
Shows I can't stand watching anymore...
Jerry Springer-As most people know, this has now become a platform for trashy folks to bring their loved ones on TV to confront them about having cheated on them. Very often, people will begin to swing fists at each other, or attempt to throw chairs at one another. Filled with lots of angry couples, strippers, mulletheads, people with bad dental teeth, and people with bad English.
Jenny Jones-This show used to be interesting at times, and had a lot of stuff to cover. Then Jenny seemed to become obsessed with having shows with more sex-based topics, affairs, and other bullshit that didn't seem to fit her.
Ricki Lake-I watched this show a lot, even though I couldn't stand Ricki's blaring, nasal voice. It was entertaining to listen to as I played around on my computer. This was one of the first shows where I started noticing lots of TRASH showing up, and that's mainly what turned me off.
Sally Jesse Raphael-Even though Sally was boring in general, I still enjoyed watching her variety of topics, and somewhat sentimental shows. Her show suddenly started to look like a combination of the currently more popular shows like Jerry Springer, Maury Povich, and Montel Williams. She'd have out of control teenagers sent to boot camp on one show, cheating spouses the next. It looked like she was trying too hard to stay in the race.
Shows I sometimes watch or listen to in the background...
Maury Povich-I like Maury.. He seems like someone really nice to meet. Most of his show topics are pretty interesting, or at least not always the same thing. Sometimes, he'll go into a phase where he makes a lot of shows about bad kids, and sends them to boot camp, or shows about wild animals, who's my baby's father shows, shows about kids with special needs, and then "I've got a secret to tell you" shows. At least he spaces them out.
Montel Williams-Though at times, I find his comments sappy or way too exaggerated, his shows cover a wide variety of topics. He does have occasional recurring shows with psychic Sylvia Brown, who's my baby's father shows, and other stuff that Maury covers.
The only show I respect
OPRAH-Now, you may totally disagree with me, but I think Oprah's show is the bomb! It has much more class, and reaches out to so many types of people and their situations. Her show has a lot of variety, and a lot of the topics seem to be helpful, rather than just being a display of angst and negative feelings. Like most talk show hosts, she seems to have a favorite cast of experts that seem to help a lot of people. Even though we all know she's probably got money out the ying-yang, she seems extremely believable as a down-to-earth woman most of the time. She has things that she's cheap about, and doesn't seem afraid to admit it. She's also inspiring because she reads a lot. I'm not a person that reads a lot, but I know one day that if I keep on watching her talk about books, I'm going to be tempted to crack one open and get into the habit. If I could have dinner with one talk show host, it would definitely be Oprah.
I realize it probably is a hard job to run a talk show and keep your audience interested, so I'm not saying I could do things better than the shows that I am criticizing. I commend these folks for taking the risks that they have, and providing insightful entertainment for critical minds such as mine.

Well, just got to work, and still, no luck with the camera. These are the two simple reasons I was unable to get it going.
1. My PC and everyone else's around me were too old to have USB slots, even though they're decently fast machines.
2. There was a laptop lying around that had a USB port, and I hooked up the camera, but found out it didn't have a NIC card. There wasn't one of those lying around. Arf.
I think all I need is either a PCMCIA NIC or a USB-to-Serial Port adapter for my camera. Does the latter exist?

EQ Victory! I thought this wouldn't happen for quite a while, but by some miracle it has! Wuoshi, a VERY high level, nasty evil dragon (I'll have to show you part of my log file that shows my brief encounter with him) found on the continent of Velious, has been successfully slain by the courageous people of the Rathe server. Check out the screenshots. He needed a good ass-kickin'. I bet he's slain thousands and thousands of unsuspecting players since the launch of the expansion. [ link via EQVault.com ]

Chris and I got Everquest: Scars of Velious a few days ago and we've been loving it since. Even though we've already died like 10 times there, it's been so much fun. There are so many high level things there, and plenty of things that con green (meaning they're low enough of a level that you won't get experience for killing them), but have a ton of hitpoints and hit hard enough to kill a wimpy little shaman like myself. We've had a lot of fun exploring the new zones, and meeting new creatures all over the place. There's even cute little snow bunnies this time. I wish I had time to talk about all this right now, but I'm kinda busy getting some more images up on my page. I've had some crazy encounters in Everquest lately.. I totally recommend this expansion pack, and I do warn you that it truly is a 30+ level place, unless you happen to have a big deathwish. Anyway, more about this later!

Today, my supervisor told me about a site I can't believe I never ran into before. It sounds familiar to me, but maybe I just didn't know how to use it before. Just go here and either telnet to blekko.net or blekko.net port 8080, using your own telnet client, or use the java applet they have available. There is no need to log on, but once you get to the prompt, you should type "starwars" without the quotes, and you will get to see a really cute ascii version of Star Wars. It's so cute!

A few myths about Texas (that I remember from talking to people from IRC)
-We're all hicks -It's always hot here -It's FLAT -It's one big desert
To dispell the myth about Texas being hot all the time, see for yourself what we've been dealing with since yesterday. It's a lot better now though, and things are melting.
Desert?? What desert? I remember so many people from IRC asking me what it was like to live in the desert after I told them that I lived in Texas. There may be some desert-like areas, but they're definitely to the west of Dallas/Fort Worth. DFW wouldn't be such a big metropolitan area if it were just plain desert. I think cowboy show reruns must still be playing worldwide.
About the "hicks" thing, I can only speak for the suburban areas around here. You might find "hicks" (no, I am NOT racist), in smaller towns, and other certain areas where there are lots of white people, but I would say a majority of people around here are preppy suburbanites. Personally, I don't think *I* am a hick.
Texas isn't ALL flat, as some people (especially West Coast peeps), might assume. If you head towards the western part of Texas there is a fairly large mountainous region. I live where it's flat, but I don't mind. If I wanna see mountains and hills, I'll go to California.
Enough ranting for now though, I'm going to be spending some time today hooking up my cam @ work. Yes! I simply asked (like Julie @ Amabilis.net suggested) and sure enough my supervisor said YES. In fact, he seemed pretty supportive of the idea and said he'd do the same if he had a cam. =) Woo hoo!
The only drawback is that I work in a really dark (by choice) room surrounded by a bunch of monitors, so it might be really hard to see me. I could just easily turn on the lights, but that's no fun for me. I dunno, I'll just see how it works out. :) I'm not sure if I want to make this a *thing* that I start doing.. it's only an experiment, and I might just stop doing it on my first day. *shrug*

When they said it might ice over today, they weren't kidding. When Chris and I left the house today for work, it had just started sleeting. Not even 2 miles away from the house we already saw a car flipped over on its side off the freeway. There were many cars stalled along side, and people slowed down to a crawl. It was nice to see that people had enough sense to keep good distance between each other. As we got closer and closer to work, the sleet got worse, and the precipitation on the windshield was freezing fast. We turned around, and called in late. There was no way I was going to make it in there with all that sleet and ice on the road... especially in a tiny little Cabrio.
I probably won't be on the computer today since I will be continually checking to see when road conditions are better. Sorry, if there isn't anything new on here today.

Rest in Peace Flashnet Party @ The Mule Pub
This probably doesn't mean a thing to you if you've never worked here. I am typing this up mainly so I have a record of what happened for myself since I don't keep a written diary. Flashnet is the name of the ISP that I currently work for and will be working for until some time in the beginning of next year. The end date is still unknown, but I am sticking around because I was offered a pretty nice retention bonus and I'll also get severance pay. Last October, Prodigy bought us out (some called it merging...) and then soon after, SBC owned around 45% of Prodigy. The first few months of this year weren't so bad; it was pretty much business as usual. Then slowly, migration became the issue, and massive changes to our network needed to be done due to FCC regulations that SBC had to abide by. Since SBC was pretty much the big guy in the picture, they basically decided we would be headquartered in Austin, TX. Many of us have relocated, some have jumped ship and found better jobs elsewhere, and the rest of us are clinging on until the Titanic finally goes all the way under. Anyway, Flashnet will be no longer sometime early next year, unless something else changes. =(
Because of all of this, someone at Flashnet decided we needed to have a goodbye party. The choice of location? A local pub that many Flashnet people frequent called The Mule Pub. Many people were invited, those that still work here, those that have left but are still in contact with us, and some that relocated to Austin. The former CEO, Lee Thurburn, and VP of Marketing, Russ Wiseman were invited and were supposed to show up, as well.
Chris and I got there rather late, but I still got a chance to see lots of people I hadn't seen in a while.
Some of the peeps I ran into (sometimes literally) included:
-Nathan Brown, an Everquest pal & techie friend, but his girlfriend Amy didn't come because she wasn't old enough yet. I told Nate that he could have easily bought a drink for her, like Chris did for me since I didn't have my license on me. *believe me, I am old enough to drink, it's almost been a year since I became legal*
-Blake who is single & looking, plays Everquest, very good looking, and ever so sweet. Psst... email him, girlies! He's a techie friend and EQ pal of mine as well.
-Loren, my supervisor... Finally, got to see him with a beer in his hand. Hehe.
-Jake, another techie friend, and EQ player...he still works here =)
More Peeps: (sorry got too lazy to put up links for everyone right now, maybe later) Cooter (Jeff Brown), Khanh Nguyen, Victor Salinas, Dave Whitmer, Gina-Marie Dallas and Jesse Swanson, Billy Whitmire, Chris Tripp, Martin Marcuse, Robert Madearis, Shelby Oliver (I missed her, she was there briefly), Brandon Whitbeck, Tony Sims, Jennifer Dickerman (Queen of Human Resources), Raul Leal, Michael Peterson, Swifty, Jason Wingard, and many many more people. Of course my memory is a little whacked right now, so I know I didn't list everyone. I'm just trying to keep a mental note.
I had like 4 things to drink.. had a Long Island Ice Tea, Jack & Coke, a shots of something really lemony. I thought I had everything under control, but I guess not.. I had a bit of trouble standing up straight, and got a bit too sloppy, so Chris and I kinda left cold turkey...no goodbyes :(. I had not drank since July 4th, so that could be a reason why I didn't handle alcohol so well. Blah, I'll just let you imagine the rest. I don't want to gross people out on all the ugly details. =P
Overall, I had a great night... I slept fine, but woke up dehydrated, with my head hurting pretty bad, and feeling a strong desire to upchuck. I still feel a little bit of it now, but I was OK enough to go to work, so it's all good.
I will miss these people sooo much...even though our departments were pretty separated, I still felt like I was in high school with all these people, and now we're graduating, and might never see each other again. Farewell, Flashnet...*sniffle*

Sunday TV IS and ALWAYS will be the MOST BORING programming. I think it's supposed to make you wanna get out of the house or spend more time with your friends and family. Either that, or television stations have that day off. I'm at work right now, and I'm flipping through all the local and the satellite channels and there's still nothing to watch.
To remedy my boredom, I am forcing myself to do more surfing while "listening to/watching" TechTV. Yum.

[ V I R U S | W A R N I N G ! ! ! ]
There is nothing more I hate about email than really lame forwards/jokes, spam, and worst of all, email viruses that generally affect and come from Outlook(Express) users (remember the Melissa Virus? And the I love you bug?).
Luckily, I wasn't touched by either of those two, but I realized I would eventually run into a virus one day. Well, my day had finally come on November 30th, when I received a message from a so-called "hahaha@sexyfun.net" with a message entitled "Snowhite and the Seven Dwarfs" and it had an attachment called "midgets.scr" included. It actually came into my email via an internal work mailing list, which made it stand out even more. Well, shortly after mailing the group back asking if anyone knew what it was, I got yet another of those Snowhite emails, this time with a differently named attachment. To make a long story short, it ended up being a virus that is spread through email, and to this day I am STILL getting those emails from people who might have me in their address book or have sent mail to me recently. Needless to say, I delete each and every single one of those emails anytime I get them. I'm glad I don't keep an address book, use Outlook, or open attachments from people I don't know (even then, I am still paranoid)...phew.
After doing some research, I found out that the virus behind this email is called the "I-Worm.Hybris Virus". This is the message looked like, and please take note that it also comes in different languages:
Subject: Snowhite and the Seven Dwarfs - The REAL story! Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2000 15:44:26 -0600 (CST)
From: Hahaha
Today, Snowhite was turning 18. The 7 Dwarfs always where very educated and polite with Snowhite. When they go out work at mornign, they promissed a *huge* surprise. Snowhite was anxious. Suddlently, the door open, and the Seven Dwarfs enter...
Attachment - dwarf4you.exe, midgets.scr, and several others I can't remember
Beware of SNOW WHITE!

Woo Hoo! Just got through with my annual eye exam and a fresh pair of disposable contacts. For the past couple weeks, I had been wearing the dorkiest looking glasses in the world because one of my contacts had a tear in them and I was tired of walking around with one green eye. I couldn't look people in the eye, ugh. My glasses were from 4 years ago, and for some reason the prescription was really strong... strong enough that my eye doctor said they don't even make glasses that strong yet, heheh. Maybe they were messed up, who knows... I didn't wear them until recently.
I ended up getting disposable contacts, and this time they're clear. Mine were green before...and I got really tired of that. It felt so fake to be Asian and have dumb looking green eyes. Now that the glasses are gone, I feel soooooooooooooo free, and I don't have to worry about looking like such a poser.

My very pretty web-acquaintence Julie has decided to start Bloggin'!
I have no idea what made her decide to, but the reason why I did was to ease the task of updating this main page. I was already doing it on a daily basis, but I was too lazy to archive anything and things got complicated otherwise. I don't remember whose blog was my first to read, but after seeing so many blog sites, I tried to resist assimilation, but couldn't, and surrendered to BLOG.
Even though I try not to use it like most other bloggers, I still always end up including links in most of my entries. I would like to start using it more for a daily journal/weblog... so that I don't have to manage both of those things separately.
Well, I'm now on my second day off, and will probably not make anymore entries tonight. Tonight I'm going to go to my company, Flashnet's funeral/goodbye party. It's kinda sad, but it'll be so awesome to see a lot of people I used to work with there. We'll be all hangin' out at a local bar called the Mule Pub with the former CEO, current/former employees and their dates. Last time I was there, I had 3 drinks (a Blue Hawaiian and 2 beers), and made a fool outta myself and fell down the stairs on the deck. OUCH. Actually, it was more embarassing than painful. Oh well, I've learned my lesson.. =P
should be a lotta fun... we'll see...

One more week until my 22nd burfday!
I can't wait! I'm going to formally celebrate it on Sunday (cuz we couldn't find any open reservations on Saturday) with my youngest sister Marilyn whose birthday is the 20th. She's turning 16! Wow, I can't believe it!! I never thought I'd see the day that would happen. She's always been a baby to me, and now she's old enough to drive. It's crazy how time whizzes by.
Hopefully, we won't get a bunch of combo gifts, but fortunately I don't remember that happening much growing up. I think most people know better than that. *wink*

Would you ever eat a piece of candy that looked like this?

Yeah, I realize it looks kinda like a Tootsie Roll, but do Tootsie Rolls look like that before you put them in your mouth or melt in the sun? I don't think so...
If you've never been to Bad-Candy.com I suggest you go now. These 2 very brave boys have put their taste buds at risk by trying some of the most disgusting looking candy out there. And then you get an in-depth review which is usually hilarious!
To think that someone out there has bought this stuff for their kids....so sad!

Are you one of those gamers out there that get seriously hooked on certain games for extended periods of time? I know I sure am. I found this article about 10 different games that a lot of us might find have gotten addicted to from one time or another. I found quite a handful of ones that I know I couldn't peel myself away from. Remember, you're not alone...

This is an article that's a little over a week old, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. I don't know how familiar Luna the Tree is to you, but basically it's about a one thousand year old redwood tree in California that was spared the chainsaw because of a very inspirational environmental activist by the name of Julia Butterfly Hill. To prevent the tree from being cut down, she decided to live in it, spending 2 years of her life there (1997-1999). She finally climbed down after the lumber company agreed that they would not cut it down. I find it very admirable that someone as young as her proactively took part in trying to preserve nature like that. Apparently, her sacrificing 2 years of her life up there wasn't enough. Read what happened to Luna the Tree here.

Inappropriate Thought of the Moment
Did you realize that girls that were born in 1982 (nineteen freakin' 82!) are able to legally do PORN this year? Oh my God, that's just so young!!! I remember thinking about how young kids born in 82 were to me when I was in elementary school. Now they can do porn?! Ack! And just think, next year you can model nude if you were born in 1983. Sheesh, somebody please stop the years from going by!
By the way, if you're wondering why there isn't a link for this blog, it's because first of all, I do not condone pornography, and secondly, it's so damn easy to find porn on the net. Just go to any local search engine and type in any bad word you can think of and then presto! There's your p-o-r-n!

Remember when you were young, people would ask you what you wanted to be when you grow up? Some kids knew right away, and then some kids didn't...(like myself). Well, don't feel alone because there are plenty of people that have since grown up and are still held back by indecision, take for example, this man. See? Don't you feel better now...

Flash Fumble #1:
Can you catch a train as it speeds by you at 60mph? Apparently MAC Cosmetics thinks so. This is actually a cosmetics company whose website I've been checking for from time to time because I really like their makeup. For quite a while it was under development, so I stopped checking it. Today, when I finally stopped by again, imagine the disappointment I felt when I saw the awkward menu of their Flash interface. I mean, they did some great Flash work, but did they think about whether or not most users would be comfortable using a menu that has to fly past you a few times before you realize what you want to look at and then try to click on it just in time?
See it for yourself, just make sure you have Flash installed and you'll be good to go.

I remember when I was about 9 or 10 years old, I got my first perm. Boy, that looked really bad. It was really frizzy and I lost all the shine in my hair. My mother bought some V05 Conditioning Hairdressing (you know, that tube of hair goo?) to try to help me out and it always made my hair oily and weighed it down too much. I ended up using it only like 5 times, and the tube kinda just stayed there hiding in the bathroom mirror cabinet for what seemed like years. Well, today I found that there are some other uses for Alberto V05 Conditioning Hairdressing that I wish I knew about before we finally threw away that tube.
Believe it or not, it looks like there are a lot of things you can do around the house with it that you would probably never think of...kind of like WD-40. So if you're like me and have an unused tube of Alberto V05 hairdressing lying around your house for some odd reason, I would check this out. =)

I know I've talked about this site before I started using Bloggah, but I still love it and it's worth mentioning and having in my archives. LOSERS dot ORG is a non-serious website that lists sites that have been nominated and earned the title of being a "Loser." It's all in fun, as you will occasionally see some respectable sites in there. Some sites deserve it, some don't.
The site neatly separated into several categories such as design, girls, wannabes, journalists, rednecks, and so on... You can also nominate sites, too.
My personal favorite sections are girls, design, and journalists. Some of the sites are pretty sad. What I really like is the comments underneath each site. They're usually 1 - 5 word comments which are short, general, and in a way, to the point. Some are so funny! No, they don't really tell you much about the site, but the comments give you enough of a prejudice towards the site that you have to check out the site to see why they said what they said.
According to LOSERS dot ORG, even the people who run the site are listed on there, so it's not like they pretend to be God and determine who the losers are.
Personally, I wouldn't want to be considered a loser, but the good thing about getting on there is getting more hits. Not a bad trade-off if that's what you care about.
I found Powazek's site on there which shocked me a bit. He has a really nice looking blogger page, and I wouldn't consider his site a "loser" yet somehow he made it on the list. Maybe he nominated himself?
Well, if you've never been there before, I suggest you go! It's entertained me for hours at work. You'll probably see me talk a lot about sites on there from time to time.

I know I am far from being a good writer, but whenever I try to read Feline Transfer Protocol, I can't ever figure out what she's trying to say. She uses the most complex sentences to describe the simplest things. Ok, it might just be my lack of having good reading skills, but if you think about it--WHO WRITES LIKE THAT?! Whenever I read novels, I don't ever see authors writing anything so abstract and hard to understand. I am not trying to diss Helen in any way, but I'm just saying that it isn't necessary to replace every single normal word with a "big word" and cram it into an awkward sentence.
Maybe she just wants everyone to know that she's got a humongous vocabulary and probably has a PhD in English OR she just types on her computer with a "big word" thesaurus handy. I've seen other Australians write, and they write like normal people, so I don't think it has anything to do with that either.
Here's a quote....
"Given my parlous fiscal state and crushing dissatisfaction, perhaps I ought simply yield to the lure of conceptual menopause. I shall acquire a pension and spend all of it on the pokies. I will procure seventeen feline companions for Sagey Cat and purchase shoe-boxes of cut-price cigarettes which I shall imbibe lavishly when my oral cavity is not occupied articulating praise for right wing am talk radio hosts, supping cream sherry and sharing the seafood platter of manifold furry quadrupeds."
(throbbing headache)
Anyway, check it out and lemme know what you think!!! Sue me!

Why I'm Addicted to: Everquest ...
» It gives me a nice fake sense of achievement
» There are always so many people playing it, so you're never alone unless you really made a bad reputation for yourself.
» It's not extremely gory even though the idea is that you kill all these living creatures and loot their bodies for items.
» Playing Everquest is like having another life, another world that you exist in.
» The company who developed the game continually updates different aspects of the game, and seems to constantly work towards making it more balanced.
» There are so many zones, it's fun to explore new lands. I'm level 52, and I still haven't seen all of Norrath.
» It's very difficult if not impossible to cheat in the game, so that's a lot more fair.
» It's fun to group with other people and make group efforts to kill enemies.
» A decent selection of classes and races.
» It burns up your time real quick which can also be a bad thing when you need to spend more time on your real life.

Don't ask me why I'm suddenly in "Asian Mode" lately. It's not like it's part of my identity or anything! *hint of sarcasm* Well, I ran into this site called "Asian American: An Analysis of Negative Stereotypical Characters in Popular Media" which is a clearly written, easy to navigate site explaining and commenting on the different stereotypes that Asians have in movies. It's actually pretty sad, but true.
It'll have to take several hundred years of evolution and social changes for Asians to ever be viewed any differently. I think a lot of the reason why Asians are portrayed somewhat negatively is because Western civilization doesn't really know much about us, and it also has to do with our culture and how we're raised. Because we are still somewhat a mystery, it's up to the imagination of writers and producers to figure out how an Asian should be casted. It's not to say it's not OUR fault that we get stuck in the same type roles all the time. To me, Asians by nature, oppress themselves, which of course does not reflect an attitude of confidence nor worthiness. If we would just be a little more outspoken, happier, and less traditional, we might just start to be seen as fun, social people, and get more respect in the media.

Today is my best friend Alina's 22nd birthday! She and I are 13 days apart, and we're both Sagittarians. I've known of her since I was 6 years old but we didn't really get to know each other until we were 11 and became best friends. We played the violin together, and spent lots of time making each other laugh, rollerblading, talking, and all the stuff that best friends do. Alina's a very creative person, and she can whip up really interesting art structures and collages. I have the capability, but I just don't let my creative juices flow as well as her. I wish I had some pictures of some of her creations. Back when she lived up here in Dallas, I'd come over to her house now and then, and I would usually see a brand new creation in her bedroom. She uses anything from coat hangers, turbines, magazines, wax, pedestals, to whatever she can get her hands on and makes something that makes no sense, but makes sense at the same time. It's sooo neat.
I miss her so much since she left for college. She went to Austin to go to The University of Texas in Austin to originally study Criminology, and then she changed her major a few more times. Right now, I'm not sure what her major is, but she's going to graduate next fall. She also got married! I'm so shocked! It kinda came outta nowhere, but she married a guy named Paul on St. Patrick's Day this year. I was going to get married last December, but we really didn't have the funds to have a great honeymoon and not everything was in place yet...so we're holding off till next year probably. Sometimes I wish I could just go get married to Chris in front of a judge, and the have the big wedding later.
I called her today and we got to chat a little bit. She's really busy with school for about another week, and then she gets a break. Wish I could see her on my burfday!

I love watching Late Night with Conan O'Brien since up always up in the whee hours of the night. He's very witty, humorous, and has some really funny sketches on his show sometimes. Back in January 1998 , he played a short clip of a historically inaccurate scene from 1997's "Titanic" where Jack (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (played by Kate Winslet) were partying in the lower deck with all the "third class people", dancing around in some folk music. In that clip, they took out the original music from the scene, and then replaced it with some rap or hip-hop type song and slowed down the speed of the video. It was soooo hilarious...Chris and I could not stop laughing. It was perfect! You just had to see it. Well, since then I've been dying to find that clip somewhere, and I'm hoping someone in this world has a recording of it. NBC apparently does not distribute tapings of the show, so they suggest that you try to find recordings from other viewers who may have taped shows. Does anyone remember seeing this clip? I know there has to be someone on this planet that's seen it and happened to tape it and maybe upload it somewhere. If you or anyone you know of has this clip online, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! I'll be your best friend forever! Promise!
I already checked conan.misfitmedia.com and they had LOTS of recordings, but the guy who was taping those episodes happened to stop taping for a couple years, one of the years being when this very show was taped, so they didn't have it. =( According to that site, the clip was played again in March of 99. Oh well, hopefully one day by some miracle, it will show up...because I want it to!!

Did you ever wanna go clothes shopping online, but had no idea what it would look like on your body type? Let's assume your body doesn't look anything like the bodies of the women who are modeling those clothes (God forbid that ever be the case)...do you think those clothes would still look the same on you? What if you're just a little too heavy in the hips, too busty, or even, a little too thin and lacking curves? Well, I've discovered a nifty little tool on Landsend.com that lets you put in your measurements (if you pick the Exact Questionnaire) and choose your face shape, hair, and eyes, along with several other details, and then it creates a body model for you.
Of course, even if you put in bigger measurements, it doesn't mean you'll see any extra flab you may have hanging around, but still, it makes a good general accurate body model. Mine was embarassingly accurate.
All you have to do is go to Landsend.com and click on "My Model" at the top. Then pick the man or woman model, and either do that first questionnaire, or click where it says to do the exact questionnaire if you want to use your real measurements. Next, register, and then go try on some clothing, and see if you like how it looks on your model body. Have fun!

*Comes up for air*....Looks like I got a case of the Everquest bug again. Chris and I started playing it yesterday afternoon and didn't quit until this afternoon. We played in shifts. I finally got to level 52...after several months of being 51. Everytime I take one of these breaks from EQ, I always come back and so many new items have come up, and even game mannerisms have changed a little. It's a little bit discouraging, but I usually catch up anyway.
I saw a few friends of mine on...some had gotten to 60, others seemed to have taken a vacation too since they were still around the same levels they were when I last saw them.
Well, time to pick up some pizza, come home, plop in front of the computer again and play EQ.
